Best Practices for Updating Your LLMs.txt File: Frequency and Triggers Explained

How often is everyone updating their LLMs.txt file? If you've been doing it regularly, what's your cadence or trigger to make the update?

We started implementing these files on our sites a couple months ago, and i think shopify sites also natively serve them as of recent? A lot of people say these don't do much/are just hype for now. I haven't heard of any benefit in updating these regularly, but now I am very curious what others have to say and what others' experiences are, so following this thread....👀

Yeah, I'm seeing people in Reddit say it's just hype as well. After making some updates, I'm gonna keep an eye on results over the next few weeks.

Love this question. This has been on my mind this week as well. I've been thinking about updating ours whenever there are major feature launches or updates to the product to make sure the way it describes the product is up to date Curious to read other people’s thoughts

+1 on the value of llms.txt. Right now it feels like good practice, especially as much as things are evolving. Manuela Bárcenas way to build it into your process around meaningful periods. 👌 I think that's a worthwhile habit.

Manuela Bárcenas the cadence I talked to my director about is doing an update with every new anchor piece of content (i.e. ebooks, guides, comparison page) and any time our navigation chances. Justin Champion it's one of those things where I don't think it hurts and can only help. Plus it really isn't difficult or time consuming.

Useless for optimising for GEO See catstxt.org, only officially supported for Agentic Browsing - developer.chrome.com/docs/lighthouse/agentic-browsing/llms-txt. Some might deem agentic browsing as part of GEO.
